Most news is either shouting or boring.
There's a third option: explain it properly, quickly, and show your working. That's the whole idea behind New Thing.
What we do
New Thing Media makes short-form video that explains things without assuming you already know the background — and writes the long version so you can check every claim we make.
We started with Bangladesh because it is enormously consequential and enormously under-explained. A country of 170 million people gets covered either as a crisis dispatch or not at all. The stories here deserve the same quality of explanation anywhere else gets.
Why we exist
The bigger goal isn't one channel. It's a group of independent creators — each with their own subject, their own name and their own audience — supported by shared research, editing and distribution.
Traditional newsrooms make you anonymous. Solo creating makes you isolated. We think there's a version in between: you build your own thing, but you don't do it alone, and you don't have to learn every craft from scratch by yourself.
What we hold ourselves to
Every claim gets a source
Not "reports suggest". The outlet, the headline, the link. Where a claim rests on multiple reports, we cite all of them. Where the evidence is thin, we say so rather than rounding up.
Corrections are public
We will get things wrong. When we do, the correction goes on the piece and gets said out loud — with credit to whoever caught it.
Precision over drama
Numbers get stated exactly, even when the vaguer version would be a better headline. If a pledge is announced but not delivered, we say announced, not delivered.
We're not neutral about honesty
We cover all sides fairly and we don't run anyone's campaign. But we won't pretend a claim is contested when the record is clear.
Who's here
Join them →Started New Thing and currently makes most of what's on it. Covers Bangladeshi politics and the culture around it in short form, with a full written record behind every video. Building her own name as the first of what should be many — which is the whole point of the thing.
And whoever comes next
We're not advertising for particular subjects, because deciding what matters before you've told us would defeat the point. Bring what you care about. You get research support, editing and distribution, and you keep your own name and voice.
