What’s happened with Iran and US, and how is Bangladesh connected?

Let me speedrun you through everything that has happened from Trump’s crazy 48 hour deadline to the ceasefire deal negotiated by Pakistan between US and Iran. And you also get to know how Bangladesh plays into this.

Points to note:

  1. Iran does not want a temporary deal; they want something permanent. (Source: Why America and Iran are both claiming victory | The Economist
  2. They have a 10 point plan that Trump has to agree with. (Source: US-Iran ceasefire deal: What are the terms, and what’s next? | US-Israel war on Iran News | Al Jazeera)
  3. This includes a permanent stop to the genocide in Gaza and other places where Israel is attacking. Here, Iran mentioned that attacks on its Axis of Powers need to be stopped, which includes Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon and more. (Source: Mehdi Hasan and Experts REACT to Trump’s Iran Decision)
  4. In the 10 points, Iran says they want the right to enrich uranium which can produce nuclear weapons, all sanctions have to be removed and they must get complete control of the Strait of Hormuz, which means whatever they want to do with it, they can. (Source: Iran’s 10-point peace plan: What’s on the table and why it matters)
  5. Iran wants to put 2 million dollars fees per ship that uses the Strait so that they can rebuild their economy. This means that any country that uses that area for transportion will have to pay the fee, unless Iran has a personal deal with them. While countries are trying to make things better, Netanyahu who is almost close to a victory will not settle.

The way that we know this is because the two week delay had a deal that included peace for Lebanon but Netanyahu said it’s not so Israel is still attacking. (Netanyahu says US-Iran ceasefire ‘does not include Lebanon’ | US-Israel war on Iran News | Al Jazeera

Now there’s another interesting thing that’s happened. China and Russia are strongly supporting Iran. The UN Security Council was working on a deal where military action would be used to open Iran’s Strait of Hormuz, but China and Russia used their power to stop this and said that Iran is a victim here and the US-Israel’s aggression needs to be mentioned. They’re also supporting Iran with military equipment. (China, Russia veto UN Security Council resolution on Strait of Hormuz

Bangladesh stands in a tight position because it does not have the same power like China or Russia.

The Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh already said they are not happy with Bangladesh because we did not take a stronger position for Iran. (Source: Tehran ‘not happy’ with Dhaka’s statement on Iran issue: envoy | Prothom Alo

And there is a reason why we didn’t.

And Trump is already punishing those who are supporting Iran by adding tariffs. (Source: Yahoo Finance

With the crisis going on, Bangladesh cannot afford to make any enemy. But Iran wants stronger supporters in the East, and if the war continues Bangladesh will have to choose a side more clearly.
